Celebrating Logan’s young voices and community spirit
Young people in Logan were at the heart of a special community gathering, as Lutheran Services’ Bridges Reconnect joined others to celebrate Queensland Youth Week at the annual Youth Shine event in Rowan Park, Slacks Creek this month.
More than 500 young people, families and community members came together for the free event. It created a welcoming and safe space where young people could connect, share their gifts and enjoy time together.
Music, art and interactive activities gave many the chance to step forward, be heard and take part in something meaningful.
Bridges Reconnect Team Leader Tina Tarawhiti said the event reflects the strength and potential of young people in the Logan community.
‘The annual youth-led event is all about celebrating the achievements of young people in Logan and creating a space where they feel seen, heard and valued,’ she said.
When young people experience that sense of belonging, it helps build confidence, strengthens relationships and supports their well-being, she said.
Through its work, Bridges Reconnect walks alongside young people aged 12 to 18 who may be facing homelessness or challenges at home.
Each year, the program supports around 85 young people to stay connected to education, build stronger relationships and move towards a more hopeful future.
Events like Youth Shine are a simple but powerful example of community in action — people coming together, encouraging one another, and creating spaces where young people can grow, belong and be supported.
With support from the Queensland Government, Bridges Reconnect hosted a stall on the day, offering activities, a place to connect and information about the support available for young people and their families.
Based at 100 Railway Parade, Woodridge, Bridges Reconnect is a not-for-profit community support service provided by Lutheran Services with funding from the Federal Government. For more information about programs call 3209 1466 or go to lutheranservices.org.au
