Lutheran Women of Queensland Update
As with many ministries during this time, Lutheran Women of Queensland has been impacted, but they have adapted and continued to support each other nonetheless.
The annual LWQ convention which was to be held in July, and themed “Courage to Tell Our Story”, has been cancelled. However, the Brisbane North Zone women have still been able to share the Bible studies they wrote, Karen Bryce, the outgoing LWQ President, tells me.
“I’ve been able to send them out to my contacts and a number of groups have been able to share those on Zoom studies. Other people are just doing them one on one, but many have responded well to them.”
Some more heart-warming stories from guilds across the state include:
- Intentionally phoning each other and people who they know are alone
- Sending flowers to the overs 80s on Mother’s Day
- Witta Lutheran Church decorated the outside of their chapel with palm leaves and flowers throughout Holy Week. Members also made wreaths for the church and their letter boxes for ANZAC day
- Most members have been helping prepare boxes for Samaritan’s Purse and making birthing kits to send to New Guinea
- One lady who is a retired teacher has been helping with the homeschooling of her grand kids
Karen has enjoyed her time on her property in isolation, but has also become increasingly aware of the value of the local church for herself and others.
“It’s such a blessing to have a church community to belong to because for us its still one of our main relationships we are having while we are in lock down,” says Karen. “Some of the stuff we have been talking about is we do miss communing together, and that’s the thing we most look forward to – being able to come together and share the Lords Supper again.”
The LWQ have rescheduled their main convention for October 10 at Laidley Church. For more info check out their website.
