LCAQD Conference 2024

Pathways to Peace Web Banner (1)

2024 District Pastors’ conference: Pathways to Peace and LCAQD-wide conference: Partners in Peace

Register now for our 2024 LCAQD-wide and District Pastors conferences. You can download the conference flyer here.

Partners in Peace will be held at Good Shepherd Lutheran College, 115 Eumundi Road Noosaville, on Thursday, May 30, 2024, from 8:30 am (for registration) until 4:00 pm. This will also be the third day of the District Pastors’ Conference, which is themed Pathways to Peace.

Anyone who is part of the LCAQD may attend this conference, but the day is aimed particularly at people in pastoral and leadership roles throughout all agencies of our church. Thanks to sponsorship from Lutheran Laypeople's League, volunteers in congregations can attend for $40 and young adult leaders can attend at no cost. Email mission@qld.lca.org.au for a subsidy code before you register.

The format for the day will be Open Space Technology (see below). We will gather to address the question: Partners in peace … how do we foster communities of peace, human flourishing and hope in and beyond our diverse contexts?

Registrations close 14th May 2024

What is Open Space Conference Technology?

Open Space Technology is a highly participatory, self-organising process that runs on the energy and commitment of those who attend. There is no pre-determined agenda. You will be invited to create the agenda (related to the question above) based on what is important to you. This means you can name and address your burning questions and ideas. Uniquely, you will also have the freedom to participate at whatever level you wish. The day will conclude with clear action planning for the 'next steps' and participants will receive a report of proceedings and next steps within three weeks of the conference.

The day will be facilitated by highly experienced facilitator Michael Wood. Michael is working with team members from all parts of the Church House at Milton to plan this event.

More about the theme ...

Despite the arc of history bending towards progress and development in many fields, peace seems elusive amid pervasive disunity. Ideological differences, territorial disputes and socioeconomic disparities continue to fracture societies. Societies are restless because people are restless.

As followers of the Prince of Peace, Jesus Christ, our calling as Christians is one of peacebuilding. While we come from diverse backgrounds and contexts, by uniting and seeking each other's insights, we unlock new pathways and solutions unattainable through solitary efforts.

Conference Program

District Pastors Conference attendees will receive a Padlet link for reports and Day 1 resources.

But for May 29 and 30, there is seriously no pre-set program: it's not here and it's not pending! (Read about Open Space technology above.)

Ask an expert

While there are no prepared talks at an Open Space Conference, we're doing some legwork to identify attendees who may have certain expertise that will help inform the conversations that take place. Watch this space ...

Post Conference Resources

Why do we have an LCAQD-wide conference series?

As LCAQD agencies, we believe that we are better together. We understand ourselves as one church, with one purpose and many ministries. We have over 200 ‘grace communities’ in various contexts, all here to serve the communities around us.

Initiated in 2019, Partners in Peace will be our fourth collaborative LCAQD 'One Church’ conference.

If your LCAQD is co-located with other agencies, please make sure that leaders from other agencies know about this conference, and encourage them to join you.

Any other questions? Please contact mission@qld.lca.org.au phone our LCAQD Office on 3511 4000, or talk to the person who invited you to Partners in Peace.
