LLL sponsors vital teacher trauma-aware education

Supporting Lutheran education is at the heart of the mission at LLL Australia, so it was delighted to sponsor a group of teachers who undertook important trauma awareness education in Queensland last year.

The sponsorship, through a partnership with Lutheran Education Queensland (LEQ), subsidised the cost of QUT’s Graduate Certificate in Trauma Aware Education undertaken by a group of teachers from five schools.

The results were so encouraging that the sponsorship agreement has been extended to include another group this year, with 26 educators from eight schools expressing interest.

The course, run by renowned expert in trauma-aware education, Dr Judith Howard, helps teachers develop deep understandings of the impact of complex developmental trauma on children, understand the impact this trauma can have on different types of learners, and develop ways to address this impact.

‘The partnership with LLL Australia has made a significant impact on the professional development of educators in Lutheran Education Queensland,’ said Tanya Crooks, Executive Director, LEQ.

‘By funding educators to complete the QUT Graduate Certificate in Trauma Aware Education … LLL Australia has directly contributed to the development of trauma-informed practices across Queensland’s Lutheran schools.

‘This professional development is expected to improve student wellbeing and educational outcomes by equipping teachers with the knowledge and skills to respond effectively to trauma-related challenges in the classroom.

‘There remains a critical gap for educators who have not yet been equipped with this vital training, and the sponsorship provided by LLL Australia directly addresses this need.

‘We are deeply grateful for LLL Australia’s continued support and look forward to the possibility of further expanding this important program in the future.’
