LWQ Retreat delights both the young and the young-at-heart
LWQ Retreat delights both the young and the young-at-heart
with gratitude to hosts Brisbane North & Sunshine Coast Zone
The petrol crisis did not deter 79 ladies and 12 menfolk from attending the LWQ Retreat on 15-17 May at Maroochy Waterfront Camp & Conference Centre, Maroochydore. Everyone experienced some ‘LWQ’ (Long-lasting Wondrous Quality time!) with old and new friends, exploring what it means to be ‘Women in the Wilderness’, inspired by Matt 11:28-30 – our theme for the weekend. A Taize-style service prepared by LWQ spiritual advisor Jordan Bennett set the mood for the weekend, and First Assistant Bishop Ben Hentschke shared news from LCAQD.
Bible study, music, arts and crafts and guests speakers ensured a wonderful and meaningful time was had by all, even the littlest attendee! Anne Hansen from Lutheran Tract Mission enthusiastically displayed all the new and comprehensive coverage of tracts for all occasions. Everyone young or old needs a Jesus message in times of joy or sorrow or just reassurance!
Young people from Immanuel Lutheran Church Buderim along with SMP Stefan Volejnik shared their faith journeys through their experiences at Luther Heights Youth Camps and leadership camps.
The menfolk were not left out, enjoying a boat trip around the canals of Mooloolaba and finishing with lunch at the Kawana Hotel on Saturday. We were assured they enjoyed the outing immensely.
The weekend concluded with a Communion service binding us all together, and lighting memorial candles for our dearly departed. The offering to support ‘United in Hope’ raised $1,920.00 to enable and strengthen a Regional Ministry in Far North Queensland.
Until we meet again as Lutheran Women of Qld, next year in Toowoomba.
