Brisbane Walk My Way is coming our way, August 2026!

In refugee camps in Kenya and Somalia, girls are at risk of child marriage simply because their families struggle with poverty and limited opportunities.

Education can change everything. When girls stay in school, they are safer, healthier and more hopeful. School protects them from early marriage and early motherhood, and gives them the chance to pursue their dreams.

On Saturday 8 August, our Lutheran community in Queensland will be stepping out at ALWS Brisbane Walk My Way to protect girls in refugee camps in Kenya and Somalia from early marriage by supporting them to stay in school.

Now in its third year, ALWS Brisbane Walk My Way is a charity walking event organised by ALWS, our church’s overseas aid and development agency. This family friendly event is a wonderful opportunity for our church, school and care communities to join together in faith and action for the most vulnerable.

Join with hundreds of Queenslanders on Saturday 8 August as we walk or run to protect girls in danger of early marriage. Choose from two distances – 12.5km or 3km along the Brisbane River, through beautiful Southbank.

Some images from last year’s ALWS Walk My Way. The event is now in its third year, this year with a goal to protect girls in refugee camps in Kenya and Somalia from early marriage by supporting them to stay in school.

Both walks return to the Brisbane Walk My Way community hub at QUT where walkers, supporters and visitors are welcomed with African food and cultural activities.

All ages are welcome – especially families. It’s a special way to show children and grandchildren that we all have the power to help people in need, even if they are far away.
