Spiritual, but not religious? How to connect in a changing spiritual environment.
How did Australians see their spiritual and religious identity in 2021?
According to National Church Life Survey (NCLS) research most Australians see themselves to be a little more spiritual than religious. While many mainline churches have reported a decline in worship attendance, Australians are not ignoring a spiritual reality to their identity. In fact, throughout 2021, there was a 5% increase in Australians reporting attendance at a religious service, and some 16% said they were willing to use online platforms to discuss questions of Christian faith!
So how can Australian churches connect with this changing sense of spiritual identity?
The 2021 NCLS (which closes in February, 2022) will provide some valuable insights into how your church community can engage in missional spaces.
If your congregation has not yet participated in the NCLS (there is no cost for LCAQD congregations due to a generous grant from the LLL, and each participating congregation will receive an individualized report) contact your pastor or Council Chair.
