Visiting with Vic

6 April 2021

by Bishop Paul Smith

As the Bishop of our District, I have invited Dr Vic Pfitzner to come and visit the LCAQD in May (10th and 11th). In particular, I have asked if he would share with us, his reflections on where we have travelled as Church and where he sees we are going.

Vic’s first ministry was the Brisbane mission parish of Wynnum. He then went to Germany to study theology as a pastor of the UELCA. Upon his return to South Australia, Vic was assigned to the ELCA Seminary, Concordia, as part of the planning for the joint LCA Seminary which began in 1968. Vic was a foundation faculty member of Luther Seminary and has had a long career in theological teaching in our Church, including service as Seminary Principal. He is the author of many books, particularly designed for teaching the faith to lay people.

Anyone is welcome to take part in these two sessions. There is no cost for these sessions.

Thank you to Nazareth Woolloongabba for the use of their Church hall. Thank you also to the person of the Church who is supporting Vic’s travel and accommodation.

Vic will be at the Nazareth Hall from 9am to 12midday on the Monday and Tuesday. He will have some material prepared but is open to having conversations with people who attend the day. Vic will be talking about the journey of our Church through the years of Union (1966); theological issues in the Church; mission past and future amongst Lutherans in Australia; what he sees are key matters for the future of the Church. Those who attend will also have opportunity to ask questions for Vic to address.
