Casting the net… on Muni Day and beyond
Casting the net… on Muni Day and beyond
Muni Day 2026: Imagine a beach setting only Hope Vale could provide. A community of people who regard the contribution of past church servants as essential to their past, present and future. A celebration of the Good News.
These thoughts were echoed by our recent group of confirmands here in Hope Vale. Muni Day, as it is affectionately known, is the annual celebration of the coming of the Gospel in 1886. This year a gathering of 150 people witnessed four baptisms and 13 confirmations at the relaxed setting of Alligator Beach. The preparation for the baptisms included some beach-combing; the items collected used to construct a ‘rustic’ baptismal font. The annual event is a great success each year, due to the wide range of people and organisations pulling together, each contributing in various ways.
The generated enthusiasm has lead to a renewed determination to fill the current pastoral vacancy by ‘casting the net’ a little wider.
He (Jesus) said, ‘Throw your net on the right side of the boat and you will find some.’ When they did, they were unable to haul the net in because of the large number of fish. ~John 21:6
Our ministry needs cover the more remote parts of North Queensland, including Hope Vale, Wujal Wujal and Coen. By casting the net wider we mean we are now seeking expressions of interest in a number of different fields associated with the work here, particularly for our base in Hope Vale. Perhaps you feel called to teach in the school, maybe to run our beloved Op Shop, or serve in a counsellor capacity at the Wellbeing centre or a nurse at the clinic, or maybe to be involved in our Aged Care facility. These positions have no time frame expectations. If any of these opportunities strike your interest please reach out and explore the options! Trial periods in various positions are welcome. And yes! We do have accommodation, and there are paid positions. You will have the opportunity for extensive, meaningful and appropriate orientation. The positions are fulfilling and will enrich your life with experiences in a deeply spiritual way. There will be someone to ‘hold your hand’ as you discover the depths of a different culture. You will be introduced to people who care and will support you every step of the way.
To speak to someone who is passionate about this ministry please ring 0419023114 and you will reach Pastor David Spanagel.
May God guide your careful and prayerful consideration of this once in a lifetime opportunity.
Kindly and humbly submitted in His service,
David Spanagel
