Open garden supports our youth
Open garden supports our youth
Both Lois and Neil Kube come from gardening families – they enjoy creating a garden for their family (especially the grandchildren) and friends to enjoy. They both get satisfaction out of creating Garden Art, practically when it’s made from recycled or upcycled items.
Earlier this year they decided to open their garden for others to enjoy as well as a for fundraising event to support the local St Paul’s Lutheran Ladies Fellowship project, Lutheran Youth of Queensland (LYQ).
The Ladies Fellowship helped with baking biscuits to sell on the day. Various individuals donated items for a multi-draw raffle and Lois crocheted a rug that was also raffled. Lois’ sisters travelled from Roma and Tara to support this event. Sister Sue made a barbed wire ball which visitors could guess the length of as another fundraising activity.
Entry was via donation and children could participate in a hunt for items in the garden during their visit.
The weather for the day was absolutely glorious. LYQ Executive Director, Darren Pope, attended and described it as a special community time of friend raising and fundraising for LYQ.
The Caboolture Garden Club visited the garden several days later and, together with funds from a raffle that they held and donated, a total of $2,300 was raised. What a blessing it was to see so many people come together to support LYQ and the work that they do to grow connected, hope-filled people!
