Well done good and faithful servant
Well done, good and faithful servant
After 30 years of faithful service, David Lee is taking a well-earned rest.
March 31 marked not only the retirement date for David Lee, but also his 30th anniversary – to the day – of service to Luther Heights Youth Camp, located on Queensland’s Sunshine Coast. For three decades, Dave has sown his life into hosting memorable camps, creating a welcoming and safe environment, and sharing joy with countless guests and friends.
It is a fair estimate that the number of campers who attended Luther Heights over Dave’s time is within the order of hundreds of thousands. But as those lucky enough to know him will readily affirm, Dave was able to build countless meaningful relationships – whether with campers, staff, teachers, local tradesmen, community workers, and neighbours—and sustain these over his many years there. In fact, it wasn’t uncommon for the phone to ring at Luther Heights with the enquiry, “Is Dave still there?” from someone who had attended a camp a decade or two earlier. This comes as no surprise to anyone who has experienced his sincerity, infectious joy, fun humour, and servant-heartedness over the years.
Not only did Dave play a central role in creating the culture of the Luther Heights family, but he also literally raised his own family there along with wife Chrissy: three daughters, Jess, Maddy, and Mili.
As a fun farewell gift—and in the spirit of Dave’s humour and endless whistling and singing around the site—the team at Luther Heights put together their own ‘Dave Lee’ song! You can view highlights of Dave’s career and sing along to the lyrics at https://youtu.be/jhbfpokFLz8.
Words cannot adequately thank Dave and the Lee family for all they have done at Luther Heights, nor can one fully appreciate the impact they have had. All we can do is simply thank them all and wish Dave a blessed and restful retirement!
