An update on LEQ Schools and Services post-Cyclone Alfred

Dear Lutheran Church Network,

Thank you for your thoughts and prayers as our Lutheran Education Queensland community continues to navigate the impacts of Tropical Cyclone Alfred. It’s certainly not something we were expecting in the first week of autumn in south-east Queensland!

Many of our Schools and Early Years Services in south-east Queensland were closed for much of last week due to severe weather. I want to recognise the tremendous amount of work and support we have seen across our learning communities to get Schools, Early Years and OSHC services back up and running. Thank you for those of you who supported on the ground and in your prayers.

While many of our Schools and Services have been able to get back on their feet this week, some Schools and Services remain closed. This is due to damage on-site and/or ongoing power outages.

I would like to recognise and call out the exceptional leadership of our Principals and Service Leaders, along with their teams, who maintained prompt and supportive communication with our staff and families, and relevant authorities during this time.

I would also like to acknowledge and thank ISQ and the Early Childhood Regulatory Authority for their responsiveness to get our schools and services open again.

I know many of you have extended prayers and offers of support to affected Schools and Services.  We thank you for praying for our communities.  The team at LEQ Office is coordinating support during this time, ensuring our Schools and Services get the space they need in their inboxes and on their phone lines so they can manage their recovery.
