LCAQD Synod 2024 Welcomes Visting Dignitaries
Following the Saturday morning opening worship, and a rhyming reflection from First Assistant Bishop Ben Hentschke, local elected members and other denominational leaders were invited to speak to delegates.
Cr Geoff McDonald, Mayor of Toowoomba, and Mr David Janetzki MP, Member for Toowoomba South welcomed delegates and visitors to the City of Toowoomba. Mr Janetzki observed the impact of the Lutheran Church on his life and Cr McDonald acknowledged and affirmed the Lutheran legacy in the region.
Rev David Baker, Queensland Churches Together, the Most Rev Ken Howell, Catholic Bishop of Toowoomba, the Most Rev Jeremy Greaves, Anglican Archbishop of Brisbane, Rev Bruce Moore, Moderator of The Uniting Church in Australia, and Rev Dr Edgar Mayer, Chair, Toowoomba Ministers Association, all brought greetings from their own synods. Delegates were encouraged that the gathering of the synod is a place of listening, as well as speaking. Rev David Baker called for delegates to be distinctive in their faith, and Rev Dr Edgar Mayer prayed for “surprising success and breakthrough.”
Bishop Mark Vainikka thanked all guests for honouring Synod with their presence.
