Church Gathers as 56th Synod Begins
There was a sense of joy and purpose as delegates, officials and visitors gathered on Friday evening 31 May 2024 for the LCAQD 56th Convention of the Synod, at Highfields Cultural Centre. After the devotion and Acknowledgement of Country, LCAQD Bishop Mark Vainikka made opening remarks, reminding delegates to listen to the Holy Spirit as they gathered. Bishop Mark then led the Constituting of the Convention of Synod. The ensuing program included LCANZ Department, ALC, LLL, ALWS and Lutheran Women of Qld (LWQ) presentations. New pastors to the District Tom Kitson, Chris Podlich, Jordan Bennett, Paul Hannola, Greg Fowler and Ken (Charlie) Uebergang were also welcomed by Bishop Mark Vainikka.
Paul Smith, Bishop of the LCANZ, expressed his thanks for his collegiality with Mark Vainikka and the College of Bishops and prayed for God’s will be done via elections this Synod. He encouraged people that no matter how small, their labours are not in vain.
He announced that General Convention of Synod 2024 will be held at Concordia College in Highgate, South Australia, on 4-7 October, with the Pastors’ Conference directly preceding.
