Gold Coast’s ‘Walk Your Way’

30 July 2020

by Ashlee Schultz

The Gold Coast Walk My Way event may have been postponed due to Covid-19, but their Walk Your Way event is inviting everyone to get involved in a more flexible way to raise money to help refugee children attend school.

Matt Crawford, member of the St Andrews Tallebudgera congregation and avid runner, helped set up the original Gold Coast event.

“I do a lot of running here on the Gold Coast, so I used the Garmin and Strava apps to plot the course and worked that through with Australian Lutheran World Service, Kirra Lewis,” says Matt.  “We decided on a course, and then once we got it all approved by council and national parks, Covid killed everything, so we had to take it virtual.”

“Because it’s Walk Your Way, the way we have framed it is if you want to run or walk it on the day then you are more than welcome to, but if you can’t do it then you can do it on another day.  If you can’t do that particular course for one reason or another you can set your own course for 26kms and just sign up as one of the Gold Coast teams.”

You can also set yourself a small or modified challenge – 26 laps of your block, 26 consecutive days walking every morning, whatever you can think up!

“Its just a brilliant way to extend your faith, do some exercise and raise some money for a fabulous cause,” says Matt.

And for those who are still on the fence about attempting the course, Matt has promised a great finish line; “We end up in Rainbow Bay which is at the absolute bottom end of the Gold Coast, and it’s a beautiful place to finish something like that.”

The event is taking place this Saturday, 1st of August, but you can participate any day and in any way that suits you.

If you are wanting to join in all you need to do is register here.  Matt has shared the course route so anyone can participate.  If you would love to support the cause you can donate to the St Andrews Tallebudgera team.
