Doing nothing, seriously

19 September 2018

by Vicky Lamonby

We all need a break from day to day life sometimes, to get away from our busy routines and replenish ourselves.

That’s why 11 women, ranging in age from their late 20s to 60s took advantage of the opportunity to spend a relaxing weekend on the Sunshine Coast at the Replenish Women’s Retreat.

Held at Luther Heights Youth Camp Coolum from 14-16 September, Replenish offered a chance for women to take time out to do whatever they wanted to. There were no planned activities – except mealtimes – and even then it wasn’t compulsory to take part.

Jess Hutton, Office and Booking Coordinator for Luther Heights, said it was ‘possibly the most relaxed weekend to date at this site’.

She said two women who had travelled from Goombungee, near Toowoomba, dragged their bedding on to the lawns and just lay in the shade of the trees enjoying the beautiful weather and listening to sounds of nature.

‘They were taking the whole “do nothing” approach seriously’, Jess said. ‘One lady brought her scrapbooking that she hadn’t touched for three years and did that all weekend.’

Others went exploring the campsite, which is set on 37 hectares overlooking the ocean, going cheese tasting and sightseeing, and just enjoying not having to rush around taking children to sport, cooking meals and doing housework.

Jess said the retreat, in its second year, was set up specifically for mums and women over 18 to get away and recharge their batteries for minimal cost.

‘You get a whole weekend for $150 – two nights and four meals – which would cover one night on the coast normally’, she said.

With Luther Heights being in a prime location just minutes from the beach, 20 minutes from Mooloolaba and half an hour from Noosa, it is an ideal getaway.

Jess said plans are with the local council to build a new lodge that overlooks the ocean, which will also take total capacity from 246 beds to more than 320. It is expected to take two years to complete the redevelopment once approved.

The next Replenish Women’s Retreat is being planned for 13-15 September 2019. Email office@lutherheights.org.au for more details.
