LWQ: A Community of Faith and Service
LWQ: A Community of Faith and Service
In the last eNews we learned about the origins of the Lutheran Women of Queensland, as well as about their recent convention (you can read more about that here.) This week the LWQ Executive shares more about the aims, purpose and mission of LWQ – Ed.
We as Lutheran Woman have Good News that we want and need to share, giving thanks and making known God’s faithfulness to all generations. We share in a close bond with our sisters in Christ in our study of the Word relating it to everyday living. Between us we share many years of service to God, the church and each other. Due to the age of some of our members and and a decline in membership we recognise the need to update some of our practises, but our main aims remain: Study, service, and sharing God’s love and grace.
OUR AIMS:
- To encourage deeper consecration and greater service to Christ and His Church, in particular through the study of Scripture, and to share especially with women the good news of God’s salvation in Jesus Christ;
- To co-ordinate and give impetus to the work of the women of the Lutheran Church of Australia;
- To foster the bond of Christian fellowship among women of the Lutheran Church of Australia, Queensland District.
STRUCTURE:
LWQ follows the structure of the LCA: National (LWA), State (LWQ), Zone (7 in Qld), Local (Fellowships/Guilds).
We hold a State Retreat yearly – a nominated zone acts as host – and a State Convention biannually. Zones hold a Rally and Fellowship Day yearly. Rallies include the business and election of the Zone Executive, a Bible study, praise and a guest speaker. Fellowship Day is more relaxed, still focusing on Bible study and praise but with an emphasis on “fellowship/friendship”.
PURPOSE:
To study God’s Word and support Mission both in and outside Australia. To share fellowship and form lasting friendships. Guilds/Fellowships are at the grass roots of the wider church and are great supporters both financially and socially to their home congregations. We are also involved with other Christian women in World Day of Prayer and in small towns and country areas women join with other denominations in studying the Word, and Christian fellowship.
MISSION:
At the centre of LWQ is God’s Word and sharing our gifts with those less fortunate and in need. Projects include: FNQ and Central Australian Missions, LWS, ALC Pastoral Assistance Fund and Women’s Auxiliary, and Thailand, Malaysia, Indonesia, PNG and Myanmar Ventures. LYQ is also very well-supported and dear to many ladies’ hearts.
Please feel free to visit our website and be kept up to date with LWQ. You may even like to subscribe to our LWQ Newsletter and/or Lutheran Woman Magazine. Both are wonderful reading!
Blessings and Peace,
LWQ Executive
