Hearing the Gospel in 21 Languages!
The congregation at St Andrew’s Lutheran Church came together to celebrate Pentecost as the disciples gathered (in a way) to experience the good news shared in many languages. The text of John 3:16 was read in 21 languages. What a joy to be part of a community with such diversity!
The text of John 3:16 was read in English, NT Greek, Latin, German, Afrikaans, Malagasy, French, Japanese, Swedish, Spanish, Norwegian, Danish, Icelandic, Finnish, Welsh, Arabic, Tamil, Bhasa Indonesian, Pidgin, Tigrinya – and signed in Auslan.
During the service, the choir sang beautifully and Pastor Tommi delivered a fabulous sermon.
After the Pentecost service, members gathered for lunch and slurped their way through many litres of international soup including Mediterranean Vegetable, Thai Chicken, Brazilian Caldo Verde (kale and cassava), Scottish Cock-a-leekie, Zimbabwean Peanut, Hungarian Night Owl, Moroccan Chick Pea & Lentil, American Corn & Bacon Chowder, Australian Pumpkin, Dutch Pea & Ham and Finnish Salmon. The soups were accompanied by different types of bread – including tasty home baked sourdough.
What a beautiful way to experience a diverse community.
