Church, cheese and chocolate: meet Kitrina Scott-Davies
Since March, Kitrina Scott-Davies has been working for the LCA Church Worker Support (CWS) Department as Church Worker Support/Human Resource Officer. She is based in the Queensland District office.
Along with her fellow CWS workers Kitrina aims to support church workers in ‘starting well, staying well and finishing well’. Starting well means helping church workers get off to a good start. The CWS Department maintains that good commencement practices can establish shared understandings and enable people serving the church to feel confident in their new environment.
Staying well means supporting workers in their vocation. The CWS team ensures that workers are supported throughout their ministry and service. Staying well involves things like ensuring safe workplaces, facilitating good interpersonal relationships between teams, and providing opportunities for growth and development, as well as supporting people in challenging times.
Finally, in the stage of finishing well, CWS wants to ensure that every church worker’s journey with their employment is finalised with a smooth and stress-free exit.
Kitrina was drawn to her work with CWS through a desire to use the skills, knowledge and customer service experience she had acquired over 25 years as a HR/IR professional. She wants to assist the LCA in providing a high standard of professional, friendly, efficient and effective advice and support.
‘CWS works alongside congregations and other church entities to support church leaders to establish practices (or maintain them) to ensure that church workers are appropriately skilled, equipped, supported and resourced’, Kitrina explains. ‘I find great reward in my work, visiting congregations and other organisations to offer advice, assistance, encouragement and resources to help them support their people in their calling in mission and ministry.’
‘Each location and each congregation is different, and very individual’, Kitrina says, adding that she was surprised to find how complex the functions of the LCA and LCAQD are.
Kitrina worships at St Peters in Springfield. In her spare time she loves being with her family and friends, going to the beach, dining out and sitting on the lounge in her PJs watching a wonderful movie and ‘eating food that I should not be eating, like cheese and chocolate!’
‘I want congregations to know that my door is always open if they need to talk to me or arrange a visit’, she says.
