The power of Christian music
Some attribute to St Augustine the saying ‘to sing is to pray twice.’ Whether he said this or not, most of us would agree that music and songs can express the movements of our souls in ways that words cannot.
Many people treasure certain hymns or songs because they are associated with periods in which they experienced spiritual growth or renewal, or comfort. The particular songs will differ from person to person, but the impact is the same.
Robin Mann began writing Christian songs at a time when hymns were the only option, borrowing from the secular folk music style of the 1960s and 70s. Since then Christian music has emerged as its own genre.
Over 40 years later, Robin continues to write and share singable but meaty songs that speak about God’s majesty and our human condition. One could consider him a pivotal link between our hymnic heritage and the plethora of Christian music styles available today. More than 100 of Robin’s songs have been published in various collections such as the All Together songbooks and Together in Song.
Robin is touring Queensland this October and November. We celebrate the gifts Robin continues to share within the LCA.
