LCAQD Convention of the Synod
At our annual Convention of the Synod, delegates and visitors gather to celebrate who we are and where we've been in the past year. As the agencies of the Lutheran Church Queensland District, we gather together to discern, through prayer and conversation, where God may be leading us in the years ahead.
So while it's our District’s Annual General Meeting, the opportunity to worship together and to connect over food and conversation is just as important for the health of the LCAQD as the business decisions.
Friday Night Dinner Function Speaker - this event has ended
The Synod Friday night function will be held on 30 May 2025. The guest speaker will be Shane Jurecky, Principal of Peace Lutheran College Cairns.
Shane has worked in Lutheran education for the past 30 years, across all three educational districts of the LCA. He has taught in seven Lutheran schools; from small primary schools in Angaston and Eudunda in rural South Australia, to regional centre P-12 schools in Murray Bridge (Unity College, SA) and Caloundra (Pacific Lutheran College, Qld) to the large, multi-campus city school of St Peter's Lutheran College, Brisbane, Qld. During this time, he has also served in various leadership positions since 2005, including eight years as Principal at Good Shepherd College, Hamilton, Vic and currently as Principal of Peace Lutheran College, Cairns, Qld.
Shane will be presenting a short history of Lutheran education in Far North Queensland, entitled "Christ in the cane fields – 30 years of Lutheran education in Cairns." The presentation will trace the amazing circumstances which led to the formation of Peace Lutheran College, through the triumphs and challenges of establishing a multicultural, faith-based, learning community in a remote location to what the exciting future holds beyond the current horizon. The presentation will be seen through the eyes of those who have built a transformational community where the rainforest meets the reef.
