LCAQD Convention of Synod 2024

Where: The 56th LCAQD Convention of the Synod will be held from Friday evening 31 May–2 June 2024 at Highfields Cultural Centre, Sean McCarthy Way, Highfields (map location).

This year’s theme is ‘One in the Spirit, Bound in Peace. One Church. One Purpose. Many Ministries', based on Ephesians 4:3.

A basic agenda for Synod 2024 is here.

A more detailed agenda will be published in the Book of Reports, but please note that it is subject to change, both in the lead up to Synod and during the Convention itself.

On Saturday June 1, delegates will resolve the direction of the 2024 Convention of Synod Offering. Recipient details will be uploaded to this space.

The Saturday night dinner features speakers Eloise Beveridge, Principal Immanuel Lutheran College; Mandy Beard, Chaplain at Salem Aged Care; and Pastor Paul Hannola, who was recently installed art St Paul's Lutheran Church Nundah. See the main Synod page for a short bio on each one.

Also at the Saturday night dinner: Synod Art Competition winners will be announced and presented with their prizes.

IMPORTANT:

You cannot register and pay on the day: It is very important that all delegates and visitors are registered no later than 8am on Monday 20 May 2024. After this, registrations will close and there is no capacity to make any exception to this, sorry. (This hard deadline is due to requirements imposed on us by the catering company.)

Nominations for Boards, Councils and Committees

Members of LCAQD governing bodies are elected by the LCAQD Synod. Between Synod assemblies, casual vacancies are filled by the LCAQD District Church Board.

This year, like last year, LCAQD Synod will be using Vero Voting for some of the proposals placed before the convention of the Synod. To enable this, you must bring your own smart device (smart phone, Wi-Fi enabled tablet or laptop) that can access a website on the internet. You will need to have this with you each day of convention so that you can log in to vote.

On the Saturday and Sunday mornings of Convention, each registered Synod delegate will receive a text message and an email with a unique voting link for each day. This link will be the avenue to participate in the voting during the sessions.

If any technical voting issues are experienced during the Convention, there will be volunteers in the main auditorium that can assist.

We ask that all Synod delegates bring charging devices to Convention each day. Charging stations will be available to use in the main auditorium.

3. Registration assistants
4. Ushers and auditorium greeters
5. Vero Voting assistants (these people must be tech-savvy)

Calling all artists and aspiring artists!

The Lutheran Lay People’s League in conjunction with the Lutheran Church of Australia Qld District will be hosting an art competition at this year’s 2024 Convention of Synod. The Lutheran Lay People’s League will be sponsoring the LCAQD Synod Art Competition with the aim to inspire and celebrate creativity in the Queensland District.

Entrants must consider the Synod theme ‘One in the Spirit, Bound in Peace. One Church. One Purpose. Many Ministries' (Eph.4:3) as part of their submission. There is a selection of age group categories for entrants, so that a diverse range of category winning artworks can be displayed during the 2024 Convention of Synod.

Submission Deadline: Friday 26 April 2024 by no later than 4pm

Submissions to be provided to the Lutheran Church House (Suite 1, Level 3 – 24 McDougall Street,
Milton).
