LCAQD Convention of Synod
At our annual Convention of Synod, delegates and visitors gather to celebrate who we are and where we've been in the past year. As the agencies of the Lutheran Church Queensland District, we gather together to discern, through prayer and conversation, where God may be leading us in the years ahead.
So while it's our District’s Annual General Meeting, the opportunity to worship together and to connect over food and conversation is just as important for the health of the LCAQD as the business decisions.
LCAQD Synod Dinner Speakers
At the Saturday night dinner we will be graced with three wonderful speakers who will share a little of their journey with us.
Eloise Beveridge, Principal Immanuel College
Dedicated to nurturing a grace community where a culture of compassion, inclusivity and love is embedded across all areas of a school, Eloise has served in Lutheran education for 24 years. Across three states, and four schools she has grown in her own faith journey as she has walked alongside those in her communities on their own faith journeys. Eloise has a passion for meeting people where they are at, showing no judgement and walking in the trenches when needed. As a Lutheran Principal, a mum, wife, and friend, Eloise has the privilege of allowing her community to see the gospel in action, and feeling the love, hope and forgiveness of a grace community.
Mandy Beard, Chaplain Salem Aged Care
Chaplaincy has found Mandy in the last eight years. Aiming for Christian Counselling, God redirected her to CPE (Clinical Pastoral Education). Mandy experienced hospital Pastoral Care and filled in for six weeks in a local aged care facility. She fell in love with the experience and felt fortunate to be in the right place at the right time for a Lutheran Services position, serving since early 2022 as a permanent part-time Lay Chaplain.
Paul Hannola, Pastor at St Paul's Lutheran Church Nundah
Paul was a new graduate in forestry and environmental management, planning to undertake doctoral research, when a strong and sudden call to ministry surprised everyone - most of all Paul himself. About a month later he found himself on a one-way flight from Queensland to Adelaide after completing a last minute enrolment at ALC, wondering what on earth he had just done! But God had it all sorted (He's very good at that.) Twenty years later, and after having served in ordained ministry in Perth, Barossa Valley and Canberra, Paul has come back to Queensland with his wife Karen - a Brisbane girl herself - upon accepting a call to St Paul's Nundah. Karen works in an independent Christian school on the prep class team. A ministry highlight for Paul has been to witness God building missional relationships with the surrounding community at his previous congregation in Canberra, where he served for more than seven years.
