Invitation to join with Hope Vale, as they celebrate Muni Day 2024
Muni Day is a celebration in the Hope Vale community remembering the coming of the Gospel with the arrival of Missionary George Schwarz, who they called “Muni” because that is the Guugu Yimithirr word for “Black” (which is the translation of Schwarz.)
Missionary Schwarz arrived at 19 years of age and continued serving the people until his death. He is buried in Hope Vale.
The Hope Vale community would love to have visitors on Muni Day from the wider Lutheran Church, especially those who have served here in the past as pastors, teachers, and other church workers.
If you wish to attend and celebrate with the Hope Vale community please inform Pastor Mark Winter for catering purposes: Email: wintermark.winter66@gmail.com or mobile: 0411 151 741.
Since Muni arrived on the 14th September 1887, Muni Day is celebrated on the nearest Sunday of September. This year Muni Day will be held on Sunday 15th September 2024.
Further information can be obtained from Pastor Mark Winter.
