Queensland Lutherans Stepping Out for Ukraine Refugees
Queensland Lutherans Stepping Out for Ukraine Refugees
On Saturday 11 May, you can join with the wider Lutheran church and step out at Walk My Way Ukraine to support displaced Ukrainian children and their families. Come and join teams of Lutheran church members from Hervey Bay, Kingaroy, Dalby, Tallebudgera, and everywhere in between, and step out to provide practical care for displaced Ukrainians.
Walk My Way Ukraine is an initiative of Australian Lutheran World Service (ALWS), our church’s overseas aid and development organisation. Through ALWS, the Lutheran Church has been providing aid and support to Ukrainians refugees since the conflict began in February 2022.
When you step out at Walk My Way Ukraine you will be joining an international Lutheran effort… partnering with local Lutheran churches in Poland, Romania, Hungary and Slovakia who are providing emergency food, water, accommodation and care for Ukrainians seeking refuge. You will also be partnering with Lutheran World Federation to renovate 1500 apartments in Kharkiv so displaced families can return home and rehabilitating classrooms so children can return to school.
There are lots of ways that you can get involved with Walk My Way Ukraine on Saturday 11 May.
You might like to join the 3km or 12.5km walk… or you might prefer to come and stay at the community hub at QUT where walkers, supporters and visitors can enjoy Ukrainian food and cultural presentations from members of the Ukrainian Community of Queensland. Register now at www.walkmywayukraine.org.au
OR you might like to help make the event happen by volunteering and assisting with registrations or marshalling. You can sign-up to volunteer on the Walk My Way Ukraine website – https://walkmywayukraine.org.au/cms/contact-us
If you can’t be there on the day, another great way to get involved is by supporting others who can. You could sponsor Bishop Mark Vainikka who will be running the 12.5km course… or Michael Stolz, ALWS Executive Director OR you might prefer to support a young person from your local church or school.
Regardless of how you are able to get involved with Walk My Way Ukraine, your generosity will make a practical difference for displaced Ukrainian children and their families – Thank you!
