Walk for Ukraine!
Walk for Ukraine!
The Lutheran church has been walking alongside the people of Ukraine since Russia invaded in February 2022. Working through our partners on the ground, Lutheran World Federation, and the Lutheran church communities in Europe, we have been well placed to be show God’s love to the people of Ukraine during this difficult time.
The plight of the Ukrainian people has also resonated with the Lutheran community in Australia… with generous donations of over $850,000 supporting several projects, including:
- the construction of bomb shelters under schools, so children can keep on learning.
- support to displaced children and families seeking refuge in Poland; providing essential resources such as food, shelter, clothes, trauma counselling and facilitating access to education.
Sadly, the world moves on and there is little mention of the tragedy that continues to unfold for the Ukrainian people.
That’s why we’re inviting every department of the Lutheran church… and the wider Brisbane public too… to join us at Walk My Way Brisbane, as we step out in support for the Ukrainian people. As we step out here in Australia, we will be joining with Lutheran communities in Ukraine and Poland, to provide valuable, practical support to the people of Ukraine.
Sending our Support from the Heart from Brisbane
Walk My Way Brisbane will start and finish at QUT Gardens Point campus… in the heart of Brisbane. There will be 12.5km and 3km walking options and a central hub with entertainment and food for those who choose not to walk but want to support the cause. In partnership with the Ukrainian community of Brisbane and the Ukrainian Ambassador to Australia, we hope to make the walk a celebration of the culture and resilience of the Ukrainian people.
Together as a Lutheran Community
One of the things we love about Walk My Way, is the way it brings all the parts of our Lutheran church together in support of those who are often forgotten. Our hope is that every congregation, school, campsite and care service might be represented at Walk My Way Brisbane… as a symbol of church unity and our shared concern for the people of Ukraine. How could you, your congregation and/or your service entities participate in Walk My Way Brisbane?
