Support for Queensland Bushfire Recovery
Support for Queensland Bushfire Recovery
We pray for all Queenslanders affected by bushfires in recent times, and for God’s protection in the months ahead. Some of you have already asked whether the LCAQD is running an appeal, and so we offer the following information:
Looking for Help
We have funds available to help people affected by bushfire (as well as general rural and regional hardship), but we know that often people are too shy or too traumatised to ask for help. You may be the person to help them investigate if they are eligible for government support in the first instance, and also to connect with us via mission@qld.lca.org.au or phoning our office on 3511 4000 to enquire about further financial support that we can offer.
Offering Support
We know that individuals, groups and congregations are already caring for others in need. In addition to the actions of Christian love that happen without anyone knowing, we have the following LCAQD fund from which we can draw to support people recovering from bushfire:
LCAQD Rural and Regional Hardship Fund
Bushfires follow drought – it’s part of the same thing. To make a non tax-deductible donation to this fund, please follow the following instructions. If you could allocate your donation to Rural and Regional Hardship (RRH) in general that will allow us to use the funds as needed, which may be more broadly than bushfire:
Account Name: LCAQD Ministry & Mission Dept Special Projects
BSB No: 704-942
Account Number: 100976751
Ref: [Your Name] RRH
Please email bookkeeper@qld.lca.org.au to let us know, and to receive a receipt.
Donation of Goods
Many have completely lost their homes and are likely to take some time to rebuild. As they currently have limited storage space, there is not an immediate need for items like clothing and furniture.
We are not currently collecting goods for donation at the LCAQD-wide level.
St Vincent de Paul society in Dalby advises:
- Please keep donating goods to your local St Vinnies or similar charity, as items will be channelled to the regions as they are needed.
- Donated goods will also generate funds that will be similarly channelled to those in greatest need.
The Lions Need for Feed is already mobilising in Tara and Dalby, so this is one way you could offer targeted support for people affected by fire in the Darling Downs.
Helping Hands in Cooper Street, Dalby are the feeder charity distributing free clothing and linen to people living at the evacuation centre.
If you have any updates on needs, please email mission@qld.lca.org.au
