Crazy Socks Day for Somalia
Crazy Socks Day: St John’s Kingaroy Raises Funds for Somalia
The school yard at St Johns Lutheran School, Kingaroy was filled with colour on Friday 24 March, as students stepped out in love to support children in Somalia.
Moved to action by the unfolding hunger crisis in Somalia, students stepped up to the challenge, wearing their craziest (and most colourful!) socks and making a gold coin donation.
Levering a special 18:1 grant available through ALWS, the school hoped to raise enough support to fund a year’s education, including a daily school meal, for 48 Somali children.
But… the generosity of the St John’s Lutheran School community exceeded everyone’s expectations.
Tallying funds raised through the Crazy Socks Day, along with online donations from the wider school community and recycling funds raised by year 4 students… the St Johns community raised a grand total of $1180… more than double their target and enough to send 118 children in Somalia to school for a whole year!
We give thanks for the incredible generosity of the St Johns Lutheran School community and their heart to support children in Somalia.
Note: The 18:1 Somalia Grant offered through ALWS and its international partners means that a donation of only $10 can fund the education, and a daily school meal, for a Somali child for a year. To find out more visit www.alws.org.au.
