Frontier School of Mission is Re-starting!
After a Covid gap the NSW-ACT district is re-starting the Frontier Program.
This training initiative offered both accredited undergraduate and graduate Certificates and Diplomas through Melbourne School of Theology as well as options to audit units. The program is being led by Dr Mark Worthing and most of the units are being offered as five-day intensives out of Port Macquarie, NSW (just a short drive over the Qld border!). The program is specifically designed to train church planters, lay preachers, evangelists and other lay workers within the church but is also suitable for pastors looking for continuing education.
Our first two units will be held in first semester of 2023.
Foundational Christian Beliefs. 20-24 February.
This unit, taught by Dr Mark Worthing, pastor of St Peter’s Lutheran Church, Port Macquarie, is an introduction to basic Christian beliefs. The unit examines Christian teachings with a focus on the mission of the church. The material is structured around the Church Year, giving it a practical focus for worship. We begin with Advent and the preparation for the coming of Jesus, look at the incarnation of God at Christmas, reflect on Jesus’ death and resurrection as commemorated on Good Friday and Easter, the Holy Spirit as celebrated at Pentecost, then Trinity Sunday, the doctrine of the Church for the Pentecost season, and finish with a celebration of the coming of Christ the King, which we celebrate on the last Sunday of the Church Year.
Missional Discipleship. 20-24 March.
This unit, taught by LCA Executive Officer for Local Mission Dr Tania Nelson, and LCA pastor for New and Renewing Churches, Nathan Hedt, begins with Jesus’ practice of discipleship as found in the Gospels and examines practical ways in which discipleship can occur in various missional settings within the Australian context. The student will not only be challenged to re-discover Jesus’ radical approach to discipleship, but to apply this to their own lives and to mission and ministry in contemporary Australia.
