Celebrating, Connecting, Collaborating: Better Together at Ministry Summit ’22
Our second LCAQD Ministry Summit was held at Brisbane Technology Park on September 12. 111 participants from LCAQD entities gathered to celebrate who we are as LCAQD, connect with old friends and make new ones, and explore ways we are better together; collaborating in God’s mission within the LCAQD. Everyone was welcomed into a space of living into our Lutheran identity.
The first LCAQD Ministry Summit in 2019 was combined with District Pastors Conference, when ministry and leadership personnel from Lutheran congregations, Lutheran Education Queensland (LEQ), QLECS, Lutheran Services and Lutheran Youth of Queensland (LYQ) joined with pastors for a day. This year we included congregational volunteers in the invitation, and what richness this added! Thanks to an LLL grant, we could offer subsidies to young adult leaders such as LYQ camp leaders as well as other volunteer congregational leaders.
The event was the results of months of planning by the district office ministry network. Feedback comments like the following were a real shot in the arm for the planning team, as they indicated that those who came understood the point of the day:
The conversations, the desire to empower others, the simple yet conversation-opener reflection at the beginning (use of art and quote combined with Bible passage), the reminder to care about what people care about (Bishop Mark – you can view the keynote address here), the way people went about things (not teaching but opening up conversations and ensuring everyone had a voice, how people showed love rather than the information that was shared, less a having to get the theology right as opposed to bringing out the best in what each person said.
The LCAQD Ministry Summit 2022 organising team (listed from the first floor to the third floor of our Milton Office) was:
- Russell Briese, Anna Kroehn (Lutheran Services)
- Stephanie Maher, Helena Lambert (LEQ)
- Jeremy Lie (QLECS)
- Aaron Glover (LYQ)
- Kathy Matuschka, Tom Schmidt, Rachel Koopmans (M&M)
- Nathan Glover (Second Assistant Bishop/District Pastors Conference)
The planning team is working toward a similar event on June 1 and 2, 2023, in collaboration with District Pastors Conference.
