Support Worth Sharing
On Friday the 9th of October 2020 the Queensland District Pastor’s Conference met via Zoom. Our guest speakers have given us their permission to share their pre-recorded sessions.
An explanation of each is below, with a link to view the video.
Praying Through Hell and Hallelujah – Chad Bird
How can we talk to God when we’re angry with him, our life’s a wreck, we’re confused, or we’re not even sure we believe sometimes? Or how can we help others to pray when they are going through struggles like this? Where can we find prayers that bring some order to the chaos of our lives? In other words, how can we best pray in years like 2020! Such prayers are all in the Psalms, that collection of raw, honest, down-to-earth songs, petitions, and laments. Chad Bird looks with fresh eyes at these ancient prayers to see how they can take us through hell and hallelujah.
LCAQD Pastors Conference 2020 speaker Chad Bird is a Scholar in Residence at 1517.org. He has served as a pastor, professor, and guest lecturer in Old Testament and Hebrew. He holds master’s degrees from Concordia Theological Seminary and Hebrew Union College. He has contributed articles to Christianity Today, The Gospel Coalition, Modern Reformation, The Federalist, Lutheran Forum, and other journals and websites. He is also the author of several books, including Night Driving and Your God Is Too Glorious.
Wellbeing and Balance for the Pastor – Emily Rotta
Burnout can impact anyone, and it is prevalent, affecting around 27% of the Australia population. In fact, burnout statistics are optimistic as many people feel ashamed to seek support in this area. People in helping professions tend to be at greater risk of burnout and this can lead to compassion fatigue or vice versa. Professional pastoral supervision is vital for people working in helping professions for self-care and to reduce the impact of burnout and compassion fatigue.
LCAQD Pastors Conference 2020 speaker Emily Rotta is a highly qualified counsellor and clinical supervisor with 10 years of experience. In addition to her private practice, Emily has also worked in both the state and private education sectors. Emily is a member of the Australian Counselling Association, Career Development Association of Australia as well as the Australian Counselling Association of Supervisors. She provides specialist therapeutic support to children, adolescents, adults, couples and families.
