Vale Liz Crawford. Rest in the Peace of Christ
On Thursday 16 July our Lord called Liz Crawford to her eternal home. She leaves this world a better place. She demonstrated a strong Christian faith and a dedicated commitment to and support for those who had experienced harm in the Church. She wanted nothing more than what Christ wanted for the Church. In 2009 she commenced service as the inaugural Professional Standards Director for in the LCAQD. In 2011 this position became a churchwide position and she served the LCA as manager of the Profession Standards Department.
Liz brought a background in teaching and law and extensive experience working for another denomination in Sydney.
She was faced with a huge task. She recognized the challenge and felt that she what she was doing was significant in the Church. She developed a set of ethical standards and procedures for employees and volunteers within the Lutheran Church. It was her task to implement this work by reviewing the culture of the Church, offering professional development and following up and addressing complaints. It was not an easy work. Her task was often misunderstood and not always appreciated. She brought to the Church a new understanding of the vital importance of professional standards.
She had a great compassion and heart for those who experienced harm. She was always motivated by the Christ and his love for the outcast.
The Church is indebted to her for her dedicated service. She will be remembered by those who worked with her as a good humored and committed servant of Christ who wanted only that those in the care of the Church should be treated in a way which demonstrated the compassion and love of Christ himself. We give thanks to our Lord for blessing us with the life and work of Liz Crawford.
