Jill Huf – Voice & Face of Lutheran Services – Retires After 16 Years
After more than 16 years as the warm, welcoming voice and friendly, familiar face of Lutheran Services, Jill Huf retired on 1 October 2019. Jill has wonderfully filled roles in reception and administration at the Support Centre since 2003.
Jill’s story and service goes back even further than 2003. Jill had been volunteering and temping with the LCAQD, Lutheran Education Queensland and Lutheran Community Care, as it was then, since the late 90s. She remembers a granddaughter being born in the early days, and that granddaughter has just turned 21!
Alan Tiller remembers Jill as a great receptionist and caretaker. “Jill would always let me in with a smile on the many occasions when I forgot my access card. She was always patient and never gave me a hard time. I remember when Paul Madey and I shared a little cubbyhole while the new offices were being built, Jill would bring down the leftover sandwiches from meetings upstairs and she’d come via our cubbyhole and give us first dibs. She was always looking out for us!”
For Tricia Davis, Jill’s warm welcome extended well beyond the front desk. “Jill has been such a valuable voice for Lutheran Services and a great advocate. She reinforced our connections with the church and congregations. She was the face of Lutheran Services at Synod every year – she would always be the first to arrive and the last to leave. For as long as I’ve been here, Jill has always been so dedicated, so generous with her time and willing to lend a hand. And she did everything with a smile.”
Jill says she will remember fondly her time with Lutheran Services. “I have really enjoyed working with such wonderful people, and serving others. That’s what Lutheran Services is about – helping people. We do that through our work here and looking after each other. It has been a lovely place to work. I have thoroughly enjoyed it.”
“It is with mixed feelings that I am leaving Lutheran Services. But after 16 years of service here, the time has come for me to begin a new chapter in my life. It has been a great privilege working with you all. I wish you all, and Lutheran Services, all the best in the future, and may God bless you all in doing his work in our services.”
Jill, thank you. Lutheran Services won’t be the same without you. We wish you well in this exciting new chapter.
