Let The Little Children Come
Jesus once said, “Let the little children come to me”. His heart is to keep welcoming the youngest of our care into His, and that’s the key role of Queensland Lutheran Early Childhood Services.
“For many families who attend Lutheran Early Childhood Services, this will be their first experience of any Church,” says Lyndal Mayer, CEO of QLECS. “The Church has an immense opportunity to nurture and support what Christian faith and love looks like to these families. They may not always come into congregations or go on to our Schools, but the Holy Spirit can plant a seed that will stay with them for the rest of their lives.”
This seed is planted by the curriculum and culture created by the Christian values at the heart of the ministry.
Grace Lutheran Preschool in Moree NSW is an example of this, being the only Christian preschool in their area.
“Sharlene (the teacher) teaches them that God loves everybody and we pray before we eat,” says Megan Fleming, Service Leader at Grace. “But just in general, we teach the kids how to be kind and loving and accepting of other people.”
Since being awarded a NSW Start Strong Capital Works grant in 2017, the preschool, along with their partner QLECS, has been on a two year journey to add another building to their preschool so they can meet the demand for their services.
“Our preschool was full and we had a major waiting list and we didn’t want children to miss out in the community on attending preschool because it is such an important part of their life.” says Megan.
Because of this new building, which opens in 2020, the preschool will be the first in the area to take two year olds as well; an exciting opportunity to welcome more of the little ones and their families into Jesus’ love.
