Punching above our weight
I’ve often thought that for our size, the Lutheran Church in Australia has a diverse impact. Here are some examples of how we are sharing God’s love and generosity towards us, while positioning ourselves to stretch and grow:
Malaysian Lutheran Church Visits QLECS
Last week, Queensland Lutheran Early Childhood and School-aged Care Services (QLECS) hosted a group of leaders from the Lutheran Church Malaysia (LCM), Kuala Lumpur. The LCM and QLECS have been collaborating for several years. On this occasion, the group met with the CEO of QLECS, Lyndal Mayer, to discuss governance and management. During their two-day stay, the LCM team also visited various QLECS services and had breakfast with Bishop Paul Smith.
Flood Response Update
The Townsville Lutheran Community has received a generous grant from the Lutheran Church of Australia’s disaster relief fund for it. They are currently forming a committee to oversee the distribution of these funds. Please continue to pray for the people of Townsville who have been most affected by the floods, as they will feel the impacts – both financially and emotionally – for many months to come.
Biloela Chaplain Wins Qld Aged Care Rising Star Award
Last month, Chaplain George Rankin, from Wahroonga Aged Care and Retirement Living in Biloela, won an award for his PrayerConnect podcast. This recorded resource enables those who can’t verbalise a prayer or hold prayer cards to participate in personal or group prayer. The podcast is used by over 30 Aged Care organisations in Australia and New Zealand. Might it also be useful in congregations, eg by people who are shy about praying out loud?
